High Country Shavings ~ Williams Peak Ranch

Located in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Williams Peak Ranch is a 6500 acre working ranch, where cattle are raised without antibiotics or hormones and the land is fertilized by the livestock that graze it.
On our ranch, we’re dedicated to land conservation and protection of wildlife habitat, and some things, we like to do the old-fashioned way. We only herd cattle using horses, we rotate cattle to preserve streambeds, and we avoid intense grazing that destroys the natural state of the land.

In 2002, after a severe drought struck Grand County Colorado, the Montain Pine Beetle took hold and began to kill massive amounts of lodgepole pines across the state. Today, more than 3 million acres in Colorado and Wyoming have been stricken by pine beetle kill, including trees in Grand County and our Williams Peak Ranch.

As part of our commitment to tending the land, recycling, and implementing eco-friendly practices, we made the decision to convert the dead lodgepole pines on our property into healthy wood shavings to be used as bedding.  All of the wood shavings that we currently produce at High Country Shavings come from dead standing lodgepole pines, never from live trees or saw mill byproducts
